SMS Opt-In & Consent

How consent to receive text messages is captured for Shmira's toll-free number.

Who receives messages

Shmira is a personal device-protection application. Each protected device has exactly one designated accountability contact (a parent or trusted friend chosen by the device owner) who receives SMS messages related to that device: a one-time setup link, password reset links, and approval requests for locked actions.

Messages are sent only to this single pre-registered contact per device. Numbers are never purchased, scraped, or added to a marketing list — the phone number is entered directly by the device owner during setup, for the specific purpose of designating that person as the device's contact.

Opt-in method

1. Web form entry. During device setup at getshmira.com/setup, the device owner enters the accountability contact's phone number. Before submitting, the device owner must check a consent box reading:

"I confirm the person whose phone number I've entered has agreed to receive automated text messages from Shmira related to this device's security setup, password resets, and approval requests. Message frequency varies with device activity. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, HELP for help."

2. First-message confirmation. The first SMS sent to any newly-added contact number includes the same opt-out/help instructions inline, so the recipient is informed of how to stop messages even if they did not personally fill out the web form themselves:

"Shmira: You've been added as the security contact for a device. Set the admin password: [link] (expires in 1 hour) Your device Setup Code (for screen-time limits at getshmira.com/screen-time): [code]. Msg frequency varies with device activity. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for commands, STOP to opt out."

Opt-out handling

Any recipient can reply STOP at any time to stop receiving messages for the device(s) associated with their number. Replying HELP returns a short message explaining what Shmira is and how to opt out.

Volume

Message volume is very low — typically a handful of messages per month per device, triggered only by real setup/reset/approval events, never bulk or promotional content.
