Shmira is a content-filtering browser extension and Windows companion app that blocks explicit and social-media sites, and can scan images to filter content that doesn't meet the standards set by the device owner or their accountability contact. It is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind — no filtering system is perfect, and Shmira does not guarantee that all inappropriate content will be blocked or that all appropriate content will be allowed through.
Each protected device designates one accountability contact who receives setup, password reset, and approval-request messages by email and/or text (see our SMS opt-in policy). By entering someone's phone number or email as an accountability contact, you confirm they have agreed to receive these messages.
You may not use Shmira to monitor or restrict a device without the knowledge of an adult who has legal authority over that device or its primary user (e.g. a parent/guardian configuring a minor's device, or an adult configuring their own). Using Shmira to secretly surveil another adult without consent is not a supported or permitted use.
Shmira is free. Every feature and filtering level works without paying anything, and no payment is required to install, use, or keep using it. During setup you may optionally choose to support the project with a one-time or recurring contribution — this is a voluntary contribution toward hosting and operating costs, not a purchase, subscription fee, or license, and it grants no additional features, priority, or entitlements.
Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive or store your card details. A recurring contribution continues monthly until you cancel, which you can do at any time by emailing support@getshmira.com — we'll cancel it and, if you ask within 30 days of a charge, refund it, no questions asked. Stopping or never making a contribution has no effect whatsoever on your protection.
We may update these terms as the product changes. Continued use of Shmira after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
